The Power of Prayer “Entering the Secret Place”

Scripture:

BUT when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:6 (NIV)

Devotional:

Prayer is not just a discipline, it is our lifeline to God. It is where battles are fought, burdens are released, and faith is strengthened. But what happens when we pray and still find ourselves waiting? When fear tries to grip us because a deadline looms or circumstances doesn’t seem to be shifting?

I have been in those moments. I have faced days where fear whispers that something is ending. But through prayer, I have learned that God is not bound by human timelines. He does not operate within the limits of our calendars. When I enter into the secret place, surrender my fears, and lean into Him, He meets me with a supernatural peace that defies all logic.

This is the power of prayer. It lifts our eyes from what seems impossible and fixes them on the One who is able. It reminds us that no matter what the world says is over, God is still at work. He is a God of restoration, renewal, and redemption.

God’s Faithfulness is in the Waiting

During this season of pressing and crushing, God has given me undeniable reminders of His faithfulness. In the middle of my waiting, He brought my grandchildren into my life. They are a sign of His promise to establish my legacy. In a time when the enemy could have used discouragement to weaken my faith, God instead gave me a tangible reminder of His covenant.

It was in holding my grandson for the first time that I felt a deep spiritual shift. I knew that God was speaking, not only about my life but about the generations to come. He was showing me that His promises are not just for me but for my family’s future.

The children of your servants will live in your presence; their descendants will be established before you. Psalm 102:28 (NIV)

Even while waiting for restoration, God has poured out His favor. He has opened doors for ministry, provided financial blessings, and made ways where there seemed to be none. That is why I bring my supplications to Him only after I have given thanks because He has never failed me.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6 (NIV)

Making Time for Prayer

A powerful prayer life does not happen by accident it happens with intentionality.

Set a Prayer Appointment:

Choose a specific time each day to pray. Treat it as an unbreakable meeting with God.

Pray on the Go- Whisper prayers while driving, cooking, or walking. Keep your heart in a continual conversation with Him.

Use a Prayer Journal- Write down your prayers, scriptures, and what God is speaking to you. Looking back at answered prayers builds faith.

Creating a Prayer Room or Space:

Jesus spoke of going into a secret place to pray, a place of intimacy with the Father. While we can pray anywhere, having a dedicated space for prayer helps us focus and be intentional.

Choose a Quiet Spot:

A corner of a room, a closet, or even a chair by a window. A place where you can be alone with God.

Post Scriptures:

Write out verses that remind you of God’s promises and put them where you can see them.

Put Up Pictures of Those You are Praying For:

Family, friends, your spouse, having visual reminders helps keep your prayers focused.

Play Worship Music:

Music can set the atmosphere, shifting your heart into a posture of worship and prayer.

Pray Without Ceasing:

“Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Waiting is hard, but prayer sustains us in the waiting. When we commit to praying without ceasing, we remain in constant communion with God. This doesn’t mean we are always on our knees means our hearts stay connected to Him throughout the day. We whisper prayers of surrender, we declare His promises, and we trust that even in the silence, He is moving.

The Cleansing Power of Prayer

Fear, doubt, and anxiety have no place in a heart fully surrendered in prayer. Prayer is where we invite God to cleanse us to strip away fear and replace it with faith, to remove doubt and fill us with trust.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me." Psalm 51:10

Prayer is where our hearts are renewed. It is where we exchange our worries for His peace. And in that peace, we find the strength to keep standing, to keep believing, and to keep walking forward even when we don’t yet see the full picture.

Reflection:

How has God shown His faithfulness in your waiting?

Do you prioritize time in the secret place with God?

How can you create a space that encourages daily prayer?

What fears or doubts do you need to surrender in prayer?

Prayer:

Father, I thank You that You are not bound by time, circumstances, or what I see. When fear tries to grip me, remind me that Your promises stand firm. Teach me to enter into the secret place and find peace in Your presence. Help me to create space in my life for prayer, to prioritize time with You, and to pray without ceasing. Thank You for the reminders of Your faithfulness like the blessing of my grandchildren that point to the legacy You are establishing. Cleanse my heart of doubt, renew my spirit, and help me trust in Your perfect plan. In Jesus name, Amen.
